Journey to Impact
In a Nutshell
In the MENA region we are going through a period of unprecedented change. A deficit in economic opportunity for tens of millions of young Arabs has an exacerbated youth unemployment figure of close to 40 per cent. We at the Impact Hub Dubai believe social enterprise hold the key to creating jobs and offer employment opportunities to excluded groups and therefore are proud to partner with the Emirates Foundation to the launch the Social Enterprise Festival Weekend. The Festival will showcase UAE social entrepreneurs at the start of their entrepreneurial journey.
How it all began
During December 2015 50 plus UAE Nationals attracted to the idea of using profit for social good, joined the Emirates Foundations’ Kafa’at Social Entrepreneurship Program to get their social enterprise project accelerated.
Through the program, we connected Arabian youth with knowledge, people, and resources to help them nurture the ‘social innovator’ in them. All the teams went through an intensive 2-day bootcamp to validate their social enterprise idea, before becoming hubsters (Impact Hub Dubai members) and attending clinics, workshops and webinars with leading social enterprise experts to develop their projects. During the Social Enterprise Festival Weekend the top 20 teams will pitch their projects to industry judges for awards and feedback.
Any entrepreneur will know the first step is always the hardest and whilst this is just the start of a long journey towards creating positive impact through enterprise to people and spaces we wish all the teams and local youth all the best.
